Founded and directed by the commercial worker Arcénio de Carpo, born in Angola, this newspaper assumed to defence on republicanism. It also defended the interests of the commercial and business sector and of the Afro-Portuguese elites; it denounced racial discrimination, it claimed for teaching at schools and education, it attacked the electoral processes reckoning them as illegitimate, and criticised the Portuguese politics in Angola.
