Subtitle
As mentioned in the case of the newspaper A Província published in Luanda, the title is a rare case of a newspaper whose publication moved on from a colony to another, thanks to its founder and director, Francisco Pereira Batalha. Pereira Batalha moved to Goa in 1919 to take up the post position of Director of Post and Telegraph, but shortly afterwards he retired from office; he remained in Goa and decided to intervene in local public life. On June 7, 1920, with the no. 192, he released again the project of A Província. As in Angola, he collaborated with an element of local elites, in this case the Indian politician and journalist Ladoba Ananta Sivescar, who was editor and secretary of the newspaper until October, 1923, when he left to launch his own project.
In Goa, Pereira Batalha continued to defend his autonomist ideas by arguing with both the anti-autonomists and the representatives of the emerging Indian nationalist movement. In this phase he approaches the Portuguese Republican Party, and in 1924 A Província becomes the official organ of this party in Goa. Pereira Batalha is forced to re-join the career in February 1926, and from this date the newspaper is headed by the Goan Adolfo Sinval da Costa, a long-time local leader of the party. The publication ends in October 1926, following the establishment of the military dictatorship. The newspaper had wide collaboration of Goan intellectuals, namely of Luís de Menezes Bragança, and of the colonial functionalism, having a strong cultural feature.
