First newspaper of the Far East, it portrayed with accuracy the pre-civil war atmosphere in 1822, in the city of Macau. Two factions had then battled, representing opposed interests: the mercantile bourgeoisie, extremely active and entrepreneur, joined around the Leal Senado, and a bureaucratic group, authoritarian, which had the magistrate and the ruler as emblematic leaders. Progressives and Conservatives had then fought, but the victory laid on the conservative side, thanks to the military intervention imposed by Goa's ruler: the force of weaponry smashed thus the strength of reason.
