Subtitle
A Voz de Cabo Verde was a democratic newspaper printed by the National Press in Cabo Verde, published in Praia. It started publication on March 1, 1911. Directed by Gustavo Carlos da Fonseca and edited by João Maria Parreira. Owned by the company A Voz de Cabo Verde whose owner, Abílio Monteiro de Macedo, was its manager. Eugénio Tavares was its editor during the first years, although his name did not appear at the head of the newspaper. This periodical welcomed the change of regime, and it claimed republican and anticlerical leanings. It focused on political issues such as the irregularities of the local administration and the inequality between European and Cape Verdean officials. It appealed to nativism, claimed autonomy for the archipelago, equality between Africans and Europeans and it demanded for elections. Since its first edition, it was clearly in favor of the new Portuguese regime (the Republic).
