Ribeira Brava, Island of S. Nicolau, Cape Verde, 15 January 1872- Mindelo, Island of S. Vicente, Cape Verde, 2 September 1962. He studied in the Seminary-Lyceum of S. Nicolau and was an autodidact. Lived for a short period in Angola (1891). Back in Cape Verde became a teacher. As a poet, composer, essayist and literary critic, he has collaborated along his life with many periodicals published in Cape Verde and in Portugal, and left many publications in Portuguese, French and English.
