Parra (Bardez, Goa), 1860-Siolim (Bardez, Goa), Oct. 1902. José Manuel da Silva studied at the St. Xavier College in Bombay, where he settled. He was a journalist and public servant at the Public Works of Bombay municipality. He was also an amateur historian. He distinguished as editor of the English section of the newspaper O Anglo-Lusitano, having also contributed to other periodicals namelt the Advocate do India, Indian Engineering, Bombay Gazette and the Times of India. Translated into English the first Goan novel, The Brahmans, authored by Francisco Luís Gomes (1887).
